I can remember when.......

I can remember when,no-one locked their doors.
You paid less for a car than you spent for a house..
You played outside till dark, without worrying about someone taking your child..
You would chase lighting bugs till you couldn't run anymore.
People would get a picnic together and spend all day at the cementary cleaning grave and picking up limbs and getting rid of old flowers...
I remember eating at the neighbors house or the kids next door eating at yours..
or getting up when it was still dark to go fishing with our daddy..or grampa.
when going to gramma's and grampas was a all day thing..
I remember catching tad-poles and taking them home to watch them turn to frogs.
or getting yelled at because said frogs got out during the night and were all over the floor.
How about getting in trouble because little sisters got in your makeup you had hid..
(Moma like to have never got it off Diane, she put it in her hair)
I remember fighting with my sisters growing up,but know one else had better say anything to them.
I remember coming home my 11th birthday and mom said I had a new sister for a present...
I remember breaking my nose on the ashtray in the back of the seat in a 65 rambler(cause the wheel came off).
I recall walking to school rain or shine.
Bread was 32 cents a loaf.
cigarettes were 35cents a pack, mom said she would quit if they went up to 40.
I remember swimming in the river, because we didn't have pool in town.
we had cats, dogs, turtles, rabbits,or birds at any given time,or at the same time.
Giving mom a bird for her b-day that terrorized the rest of us for 18yrs...
I remember the 2 oldest girls getting married and leaving home, and 2 younger sisters I had to watch..
Those times were very simple, but they mean a lot to me.When I get out old pictures it brings it all back..The love we had for each other..the memory's we all have, can't be taken from us.
What our parents gave us can't be bought or taken away...we'll have them always to bring out
when we need comfort or just a smile...
have a good week everyone.

Good stuff, Sis.

You could have left out the picture of me, Frankie and Danny, though. You know...the one where I have a zit the size of a small planet on my chin? ;D

That top pic of all of us is cut off because it's too big to go there. If you want it to show up right, you'll have to move it down by itself.

I so enjoyed this post...love seeing old pictures that bring back so many memories! I was the only girl with 4 brothers and oh gosh, the things I remember all of us getting into! lol You are so right, bringing out the old pictures sure can make you smile and bring back all the old feelings of how much fun those times were as children or young adults. Hey Sis---it's Cecil. I didn't mind the pics. The older i get, the more I like the pictures--especially the ones of us and Mom & Dad. And especially the ones where we are all smiling....I'll take that over money anyday....It's funny, I didn't know we were poor until I grew up..well we may have been poor in the worlds eyes, but we were rich in family--thank you, God!! for my family...that's what GOLD really is..I think the word "gold" is a combination of the words "God" and "love"--if you have Both....you are blessed beyond measure....We may cry and our hearts may hurt sometimes when we miss Mom & Dad & Jerry....but we have memories that can't be bought, love that can't be cloned, and family that as the years pass, can turn out to be some of our best friends....That is from Heaven--you won't find in this world!!! In case I haven't told you lately, I love you...you're a good sister........CECIL

Gee, thanks, Cecil, now my nose is running and I'm having trouble seeing for some reason. ;D

You are so right, and I love all my sisters. :-) We are blessed to have each other.

I remember when, too. And like Cecil, I didn't know I was poor until I left my Mom and Dad and got out on my own.

I love this post. And I don't know if anyone else noticed it, but all of y'all have beautiful features. Great bone structure or something. I don't know what it is but I see it in Diane's Jessica, too.

You're the real thing, ZZ, and I'll be back.

Hi and thanks for the comment on "granny". I've been meaning to get over here to say hello and welcome to blogging but it's been a wild week.

I don't know if your sis mentioned it but I became acquainted with her online when I saw Bay, AR on her profile. Left a comment saying I bet I was her only visitor who knew exactly where Bay is. I lived for 8 years in Jonesboro in the early 70's.

Come back and visit anytime.

The picnic in the cemetery: Do you remember when it was called Decoration Day not Memorial Day?
